STATUS: 2 Full-Time, Non-Exempt Positions

SHIFT: Mon - Fri: 6a-230p


POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for operating a forklift in the Furniture Hub, and the opening, inspecting and deluxing of DTC furniture. Duties include unloading newly received furniture, inventory control, opening and removal of all packaging materials, inspecting for quality assurance and repairing any minor dents, dings or scratches. The Deluxer will also be responsible for light furniture assembly, minor paperwork and substituting as a backup for the co-driver position (filing in on home-delivery truck performing home delivery during sick and vacation periods; which may require overnight travel or 3-4 weeks)

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Unload furniture from trailer and place in aisle locations using hand truck and four-wheel dollies
  • Ensure proper documentation and system updates concerning inventory locations
  • Using provided paperwork, remove scheduled furniture from aisle locations and put into “prep” bays according to stop number
  • Gather tools, protective glove and box knife with clean blade
  • Ensure box and piece have no obvious damage
  • Verify piece by ensuring manufacturer carton label matches delivery documents.
  • Cut furniture out of the cardboard or packaging
  • Cut and remove cardboard pieces to be stacked in recycling trailer; dispose of unusable materials into trash bin
  • Assemble pieces requiring assembly (i.e. beds or tables)
  • Verify all necessary parts are present and notify supervisor of any problems for corrective actions
  • Inspect furniture and make any blemishes, defects, scratches, dents or dings with tape
  • Perform minor repairs to furniture with marked blemishes, defects, scratches, dents or dings
  • Locate furniture to “Ready bay” in stop order to be loaded into straight truck
  • Verify paperwork for accuracy and communicate with supervisor
  • Perform end of day clean up, i.e. put away tools, dispose of used knife blades in blade box, dispose of trash, sweep area and secure work station
  • Maintains an organized, clean and safe work area
  • Works harmoniously and cooperatively with others
  • Observes all safety and Company rules and regulations in the performance of duties
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to use body members to work, move and lift or carry heavy objects and materials up to 250 pounds individually and up to 500 pounds with assistance; must be able to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, arms, legs and back to handle, feel, assemble or lift objects of furniture, equipment, tools or controls. Must possess good manual dexterity and mechanical ability. Lifting heights vary from floor/ground level, to waist level, to above the head.
  • Willing to be trained to operate all forklifts and successfully complete forklift certification training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is strongly recommended
  • Attention to detail is mandatory.
  • Previous experience with furniture or household goods is desired.
  • Experience in operating a forklift a plus
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills a must
  • A valid state driver’s license is required
  • Strength and Agility Test is required
