POSITION SUMMARY:
Extraordinary local home-delivery and customer relations driver position who will primarily serve as Delivery Assistant on routes. Position involves regional trips with a load of furniture and accessories that must be unloaded at a customer’s home, office or other designated location. Backhauls consist primarily of customer returns and scheduled pickups of furniture. This position is nontraditional since drivers play a critical role for ensuring customer satisfaction.


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Delivery of furniture items by deluxing (assembly), loading, unloading and installing high-end furniture into customers’ homes; delivery of case goods to local retail stores.
  • Mandatory overnight travel and weekends will be required.
  • Responsible for Straight Truck, Merchandise and deliveries. Will serve as co-driver for route.
  • Operate and drive a straight-truck, 26’ straight truck.
  • Unload furniture at customer’s designated location; e.g. home, office, upstairs, downstairs.
  • Walking forward and backward.
  • Completely assemble furniture as required; e.g. placing mirror brackets, bed slats, bed center support legs, hanging wall mirrors (within company safety and liability guidelines).
  • Use effective communication skills and a professional demeanor with customers.
  • Perform minor repairs of furniture during unloading process or in customer’s home.
  • Inspect vehicle for safe performance.
  • Conduct inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment and repair kits.
  • Prepare required documentation; driver logs, delivery receipts and comments.
  • Mark rejected furniture with tape indicating problem areas.
  • Unload returns and pickups each morning prior to loading new delivery items.
  • Submit all delivery documents and vehicle inspections sheet along with explanations of returned items.
  • Clock in and out each day in payroll system.
  • Provide information concerning trip feedback and problems requiring corrective actions.
  • Consider regulatory, health and safety needs of self and team mate during trip.
  • Must provide exceptional service to customers by projecting company image,” Red Carpet and White Glove Service.”
  • Attention to detail is mandatory.
  • Provide assistance inside the hub when needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is strongly recommended.
  • Ability to travel overnight.
  • Acceptable driving record meeting DOT standards.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Honesty and pride in workmanship.
  • Completion of a 6-week driver training program with Lead Driver and pass DOT required road tests; or one-year active driving experience.
  • Good knowledge of highways, map reading, sense of direction.
  • Good basic math skills (addition and subtraction) for record keeping and DOT purposes.
  • Good communication skills and business professional demeanor.
  • Ability to lift heavy furniture, up to and in excess of 500 pounds effectively with assistance from a partner.
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully complete DOT physical and strength test
  • Must have good attendance and be a team player

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with furniture or household goods.
  • Understanding of proper lifting techniques.
  • Experience driving a 26’ box truck or CDL “B” or “A.”
